Joan of Arc

Posted by Robert on May 15, 2009

In 1412, Joan of Arc was born. During her childhood, Joan was looked up to by the other children, because of her “power” to convince people to do things that they should do, a “power” she kept for the rest of her life. As well, she had the “Seeing Eye”, which showed her the “true” nature of things; thus her childhood went on peacefully, till she was 13 years old. Then, her life began to change, drastically. God intervened on her peaceful shepherdess life. He sent His angels to tell her that He was going to deliver France from English control. When she was almost 17, He revealed whom He had in mind. It was her.  Keep reading…

Amerca

Posted by Robert on May 15, 2009

America,

land of…

Sandy, shimmering seashores,

Inviting everyone to come.

Dark, whispering forests,

Majestic, snowcapped mountains,

Wild and raging rivers,

Winding down to sea.

Vast, golden plains.

America, land of…

Freedom-loving people,

Who started as courageous pioneers.

People who withstood hardship,

“The free and the brave”

“God Bless America,

My Home Sweet Home.”

King Robert the Bruce of Scotland, during England’s reign

Posted by Robert on May 13, 2009

Robert the Bruce was born in Turnberry Castle, Scotland, July 11th 1274, to Sir Robert de Bruce. Through his dad, he, as well as John Balliol, had a claim to the throne, because the Queen of Scotland, the Maiden of Norway as most people know her, had died. Not much, however, is known about his youth. In 1292, his distant relative, John Balliol, was made King. Robert saw that as ‘not right’ as it prevented his part of the family from becoming King.

Soon after, his grandfather – the one who failed in succeeding the throne of Scotland – resigned his Lordship of Annandale to Robert’s father. His father had already resigned Lordship to Robert. Now, because of that, Robert was now Lord of Annandale.

In April, 1294, Robert was allowed to visit Ireland for 1 ½ years. It was to show King Edward of England’s favor toward him.

After a while when he had returned in 1295, Robert married his first wife, Isabella of Mar. Later that year he had his first child, Marjorie. As well, he swore fealty to Edward, King of England.

In 1297, he broke his oath of fealty to England and joined the Scottish rebels. There he met William Wallace, the famous leader of the rebels. He helped the Scotch war with England for a while, then on the 7th of July, 1297, he re-swore fealty to King Edward. After a while, he again (!) joined the Scotch. While with the Scotch, William Wallace resigned his title of “Guardian of Scotland” to Bruce and a fellow named Johny Comyn.

On the 5th of August, 1305, William Wallace was captured and on the 25th, was executed. Bruce was indeed grieved to hear this news. The next year, on March 25th, 1306, Bruce was crowned King of Scotland.

So the King of Scotland warred with England for many years. There were many skirmishes, battles, and bloody plains during the war. Until, many years later, the Bruce and his army finally defeated the English.

On the 7th of June, 1329, Robert the Bruce died of an unknown cause, being a great patriot of Scotland and her freer.

Thus is the story of King Robert the Bruce.

Demo Team

Posted by Robert on May 9, 2009

Today I went to Demo team for Karate. For those who may get confused between the two, a Karate Demo Team is Demonstration, not Demolition. Today we started on a new kick, the Jumping Split Kick. That’s where you jump up and split your legs apart into, well, a split. We worked on our regular routine till about 12:00. After that, we all went off the mat to choose the weapon we wanted to learn. I, of course, chose my zai (plural of sai. For those who do not know what a sai is, there’s a picture here). The weapons that were selected were: a Katana (picture), a suicide sword, a bo (somtimes called a “bo staff), 2 pairs of  sticks, and a kama (picture). After we selected our weapons, we had to use them and get a hang of them. Next Demo practise we’ll be doing choreography. Check here in 2 weeks!
